Campo Grande Project
The Campo Grande Project is a district-scale rare earth and critical minerals exploration project located in Bahia State, north-eastern Brazil. The project comprises 99 granted exploration permits covering approximately 1,755 km² and is 100% owned by Eminence Minerals Ltd [1].
Exploration completed to date has identified near-surface weathered profiles prospective for rare earth mineralisation, with surface sampling, auger drilling and RC drilling returning rare earth assays across multiple target areas, including the Rio Negro Prospect and additional blocks within the broader Campo Grande tenure [2].
Target Generation and Geological Context
Early-stage work has combined field reconnaissance, surface geochemistry and airborne radiometrics (including thorium and ternary anomalies) to define and prioritise drill targets across the tenure [1]. This approach has supported the identification of multiple prospective areas beyond Rio Negro, including targets within the Jaguaquara and Jitauna blocks [4].
High-Value Mineral Suite
Exploration results and early test work indicate Campo Grande has potential for a multi-style rare earth system, with additional critical mineral optionality in parts of the project area [7]:
- Rare Earth Elements (REEs) reported as Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO), with magnet rare earth oxides (Nd, Pr, Dy, Tb) forming a material proportion of TREO in parts of the system [7].
- Clay-hosted / ionic adsorption rare earth mineralisation at Rio Negro, supported by first-pass ammonium sulphate leach testing [7].
- Monazite-hosted rare earth mineralisation intersected in RC drilling at Rio Negro, with monazite identified as the primary REE-hosting mineral in high-grade intervals [8].
- Bauxite and gallium mineralisation within laterite at Rio Negro, supported by drilling and metallurgical test work reporting extractable alumina and gallium assays [8].
Exploration Results Summary
Surface Sampling
Surface channel sampling at Rio Negro returned near-surface rare earth values in clay, including (selected examples) [2]:
- 3m @ 1,490 ppm TREO from surface (including 1m @ 2,282 ppm TREO)
- 1m @ 1,263 ppm TREO from surface
- 2m @ 1,145 ppm TREO from surface (including 1m @ 1,165 ppm TREO)
Reconnaissance rock and soil sampling across the broader project has also returned high-grade surface assays, including up to 17,346 ppm TREO with approximately 20% MREO, including NdPr 3.01 kg/t and DyTb 1.30 kg/t [10].
Rio Negro Prospect
Early drilling at Rio Negro intersected thick weathered profiles, including up to 41 metres of saprolitic clay in the first RC hole (CG-RC24-001) and 11 metres in the second RC hole [3].
Scout auger and RC drilling returned a range of shallow REE intercepts, including (selected examples) [5]:
- 37.0m @ 1,884 ppm TREO from surface
- 9.0m @ 2,510 ppm TREO from 7.0m
- 6.0m @ 3,027 ppm TREO from 4.0m
- 4.0m @ 3,409 ppm TREO from 14.0m
Subsequent drilling reported a new high-grade open result of 5,155 ppm TREO at 11.5 metres depth, and highlighted cerium-negative anomalies in multiple holes interpreted as supportive of ionic-style mineralisation within the weathered profile [6].
RC drilling results reported in late 2024 included a peak grade of 7,890 ppm TREO in (within the 33–41m interval) and additional intercepts including (selected examples) [8]:
- 7m @ 1,691 ppm TREO from 8m
- 10m @ 1,529 ppm TREO from 9m
- 17m @ 1,522 ppm TREO from 5m
Central and Northern Blocks
A program at the Central Block confirmed rare earth mineralisation developed within the weathered profile, including the headline intercept [10]:
- 14m @ 4,022 ppm TREO (26% MREO) from 1m with additional shallow intervals such as:
- 1.4m @ 4,913 ppm TREO (24% MREO) from 2m
- 4m @ 1,931 ppm TREO (22% MREO) from 8m
Drilling across the Northern Block returned both shallow and thicker mineralised zones, including [10]:
- 15m @ 3,268 ppm TREO (21% MREO) from 45m
- 21m @ 2,036 ppm TREO (29% MREO) from 59m
- 3m @ 2,538 ppm TREO (37% MREO) from 4m
The Company reported magnet REE oxides forming 16–37% of TREO in these results, peaking at 0.93 kg/t MREO [10].
Metallurgy and Mineralogy
Ionic Adsorption Clay Test Work
First-pass metallurgical test work using a single-step ammonium sulphate (AMSUL) wash at pH 4, conducted under ambient conditions, reported TREO recoveries up to 80% and TREO-CeO₂ recoveries up to 91%, supporting the presence of ionic adsorption clays within the Rio Negro dataset [7].
Reported examples include [7]:
- 4m @ 1,595 ppm TREO, 35% MREO with 71% TREO recovery, 75% NdPr, 81% Dy, 87% Tb
- 3.5m @ 1,164 ppm TREO, 26% MREO with 65% TREO recovery, 85% NdPr, 88% Dy, 90% Tb
- 2m @ 1,278 ppm TREO, 29% MREO with 76% TREO recovery, 83% NdPr, 83% Dy, 85% Tb
Bauxite and Gallium
Drilling at Rio Negro has also reported bauxite and gallium mineralisation within laterite. Reported results include a peak bauxite concentration of 42.1% within 20m averaging 34.1% Al₂O₃ and multiple gallium intercepts including [8]:
- 17.0m @ 90.2 g/t Ga₂O₃ from surface (including 1.0m @ 102.2 g/t)
- 20.0m @ 73.8 g/t Ga₂O₃ from surface (including 1.0m @ 106.5 g/t)
Metallurgical test work later reported extractable alumina up to 42.1%, Al/Si ratios up to 9.0, and gallium assays up to 106.5 g/t Ga₂O₃, noting gallium can be recovered as a by-product during the Bayer process used in aluminium refineries [9].
Processing and Development Characteristics
Work completed to date indicates potential for multiple mineralisation styles within Campo Grande, with early test work demonstrating that part of the system may respond to conventional ionic-clay leaching methods (subject to further optimisation and confirmation) [7].
The identification of bauxite and gallium at Rio Negro provides potential longer-term optionality for additional technical assessment, metallurgical work and economic evaluation [8].an be recovered as a by-product during the Bayer process used in aluminium refineries [9].
Strategic and Regional Advantages
Campo Grande benefits from:
- A large tenure position, with Rio Negro representing only a small portion of the broader landholding [8].
- Location in Bahia State, with established access and infrastructure supportive of systematic exploration programs [1][9][11].
Current Status and Next Steps
Eminence has initiated a strategic technical assessment and data verification program with GE21 Consultoria Mineral, intended to support future JORC-aligned technical studies (including consideration of a potential Mineral Resource Estimate and Scoping Study) and to identify data gaps and next-stage work priorities [11].
Ongoing work programs outlined by the Company include further reconnaissance sampling and mapping, follow-up drilling, and high-resolution geophysics (radiometrics, magnetics and LiDAR) to refine targeting and support a district-scale regolith model [10].
